The celebration for the 2020 BOP – Bologna Prize for the Best Children’s Publishers of the Year are a key part of the BCBF Online Special Edition. The BOP Prize is awarded each year to showcase editorial projects, professional skills and intellectual qualities of work from publishing houses all over the world. Let’s meet Windy Hollow Books, winner for OCEANIA!

Windy Hollow Books is an independent publisher of books for children. Based in Melbourne, Australia, Windy Hollow has been publishing high quality, literary picture books by Australian authors and illustrators for the past 14 years. The Company works with established authors and illustrators but also make it its mission to find and nurture new talent. 

Many Windy Hollow titles have been nominated for or received awards acknowledging their excellence. In 2016, the picture book Flight by Nadia Wheatley and Armin Greder, a story that looks at a family fleeing conflict and seeking refuge, won the Children’s Book Council of Australia, Picture Book of the Year award. It was listed as a White Raven book for the same year.

The publishing house is committed to promoting the joy of reading to young children. Windy Hollow’s focus is on picture books with strong child-centred characters that will empower children to believe in themselves and their ability to make a change. Windy Hollow chooses books that are entertaining and engaging but that also foster a respect for community and the environment. Windy Hollow books combine non fiction with a fictional story to inspire readers to be curious and understand more about the world around them.
